Development 3

For my third development shoot I went into the city centre to capture different aspects of nightlife on a busy Friday night. I took pictures of night workers such as bouncers, cleaners and decorators as well as the business of both taxis and people who are out to enjoy their night. All my images are in black and white as this is both a prominent theme that runs throughout my work as well as something that all three of my photographers incorporate in their work.

This image shows the back of a police van parked on the road at night. There appears to be no police officers around the van suggesting they are either stationed inside the van or patrolling the streets. The image is black and white creating a high amount of contrast, further aided by the darkness of the sky.

I chose to take this particular image to portray both the dangers of what can happen at night as well as to portray the use of workers at night. Even though there appears to be no trouble to presence of the police van suggests that it is expected that there will be trouble occurring in the course of the night, hence the presence of police officers. I wanted to portray the another aspect to night-the negative aspect. Even though there is often a large amount of fun to be had at night, there is also the dangers of the darkeness which people need to be aware of. I further wanted to show the use of night workers in all of their different forms, police officers being one.

This image portrays a busy street at night, filled with both taxis and their drivers, and drunken revellers out to have a good night. The image is black and white creating a high contrast between the darkness and the lights that appear from the front of the taxis.

I think this image is interesting and has been successful as it incorporates both the styles of Anthony Rivera and the style of John Brownlow. Through the use of street photography, I have managed to capture a spontaneous moment in which both workers are doing their jobs, through the use of taxis, and strangers are having a good time, aided by the use of alcohol. I have managed to contrast the two things that I am mainly focusing on in the project, all on one street. Furthermore, the use of light coming from the taxis, which are highlighting certain areas of the street, is a style which Anthony Rivera uses within his images. Even though they are not the centre focus of the image, the lighting has become a prominent part of the picture.
