Development 2

For my second development shoot, I adopted the style of Anthony Rivera to create photographs at nighttime that use different lighting in creative ways. In Anthony Rivera's work the lighting is what stands out in his images and so I have attempted to make the lighting the centre focus within my images as well.

This image portrays a petrol station at night. The colours within the image stand out as they are fairly saturated making them appear very vibrant. The petrol station appears to be empty, possibly as a result of the time of night in which this image was taken. There appear to be dark clouds in the sky possibly suggesting it is about to rain.
I chose to take a picture of the petrol station to portray a different side to night. Whereas the centre focus of my project is on street photography at night using people within the images to narrate a story, I wanted to experiment with the another aspect of night, the lonely aspect in which everything, such as petrol stations appear to be abandoned. Night is a time in which social convention often suggests that unless you are out partying or working, you should be at home. Whereas, a petrol station is often busy during the daytime, at night, apart from the workers, petrol stations are often empty and abandoned once darkness falls. This is something I wanted to show and think I have done successfully within this image. I further decided to take this particular image, as I felt the use of lighting within the petrol station was interesting, and so I wanted to portray the image focusing on the lighting just as Anthony Rivera does in his images.

This image shows some writing which spell out 'Gypsy' in illuminated words. The image is fairly saturated with the red/yellow/orange writing standing out against the black background. It is clear that this image has been taken at night, as the writing which is the centre focus of the image clearly stands out against the darkness.
I chose to take this image as I wanted to portray the use of light at night but in a different style of how Anthony Rivera does. Whereas Rivera uses street lamps at night to illuminate and highlight his images, I chose to explore a different form of lighting at night. This image was taken from the outside of a bar, in which they use coloured lighting to advertise themselves.
